The Inaugural Walton Film Festival

Celebrating the 120th Anniversary of Cecil Hepworth’s 1903 film adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’

Cecil Milton Hepworth (19 March 1874 – 9 February 1953) was a British film director, producer and screenwriter. He was among the founders of the British film industry and continued making films into the 1920s at his Hepworth Studio, Walton-on-Thames.

His works include Alice in Wonderland (1903), the first film adaptation of Lewis Carroll‘s children’s book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.  So on this 120th anniversary year Love Walton (Walton BID) is creating the inaugural Film Festival for Walton between 20th – 30th May 2023 which will have the core theme of Hepworth and Alice in Wonderland.

The festival will include: film screenings, film, story-board and silent movie workshops, story-time, an evening with Dr Simon Brown a Hepworth Expert at the Cecil Hepworth Playhouse and a town community ‘Mad-Hatter’s tea party’ High Street event on Saturday 27th May.
